The Magic of Zone Control Systems

Your current heating and cooling system functions just fine––but did you know there’s a way to improve it?

Zone control systems allow you the freedom to control the temperature individually in multiple areas of your San Diego home. You decide whether to turn a room or an entire floor into a single zone.

This thoughtful HVAC add-on can make your home more efficient, saving you money. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), nearly 50 percent of your energy costs go toward heating and cooling alone, according to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Zoning means you’ll never have to fight over thermostat settings again. Whether you have an air conditioner, furnace, or heat pump, you can use zone controls to create precision comfort while lowering your energy use.

How It Works

A zone control system consists of two main components: mechanical dampers and thermostats.

Dampers are installed in your ductwork. They open and close to let treated air into a zone or block it from entering.

Thermostats are installed in each zone. They allow you to set it to your desired temperature or completely turn off the ventilation in that area.

Why Homeowners Love Zone Controls

In our experience, zone controls elevate nearly every home comfort system. Customers have only good things to say about them whenever the Carrier Cooling Center team performs an installation. Curious whether they may be right for you? Here’s how they can improve your home:

Fine-Tuned Heating and Cooling

Are there one or more areas of your El Paso house that tend to feel hotter or colder than the rest? You’re not alone––it’s a common issue. Sizable windows and kitchens can add a few degrees, while certain building materials or poor insulation can lose a few. Zone controls allow you to fine-tune every part of your home to the perfect temperature.

No More Comfort Compromises

It’s no secret–– not everyone agrees on what temperature constitutes comfortable. Fortunately, zone controls can cease the thermostat war, allowing each household member to heat or cool their own space to create their personalized comfort zone.

Improved Efficiency

There are likely one or more rarely occupied rooms in your home. By dividing areas into zones, you can reduce your energy consumption–– switch off the thermostat when you’re not using a particular room or part of your home. When paired with the ecobee SmartThermostat Pro with Voice Control, you can automate this process to fit your schedule, saving up to 23 percent in energy costs.

Special-Purpose Rooms

Some rooms in your home may need to be at a different temperature than others. Zone control is the perfect solution. Got a home gym? You can blast the cool air for workouts or crank it up for hot yoga. Other applications include indoor gardens, humidors, or pools. On top of that, it is ideal for a separate unit like an apartment, in-law, or BnB.
